What we do
Our thematic areas
Human Rights Agenda firmly believes that every person has the right to enjoy their human rights in accordance with the Constitution of Kenya, other laws, and the International human rights Instruments. This is why HURIA has been at the forefront of researching, monitoring, and implementing policies & fighting for justice for the communities since its inception. HURIA has, therefore, designed the following thematic areas in accordance with the rule of law of Kenya and internationally accepted laws of Human Rights:
Climate justice, business and human rights
We work to address the many practices that are harming communities nationwide and worldwide by promoting peoples’ rights and participation in environmental conservation and climate justice through Forest Conservation, Afforestation and Climate Justice. We help protect the environment, guide national policies and develop social and ecological resilience in the face of climate change.
Inclusive governance and accountability
We work with stakeholders and institutions to promote compliance with human rights obligations and responsibilities, and adhere to the governance principles of transparency, accountability and participation to achieve decision-making that is efficient, fair and inclusive, honest and transparent, accountable and limits the opportunities for corrupt practices to enhance good Governance,
Peace, security, and resilience
Peace and development as two sides of the same coin; with peace being a precondition for societal development and progress, including economic, political, and human dimensions, which in turn is crucial for bringing about durable peace. Understanding the causes of conflict and the challenges of sustainable peacebuilding are required to resolve violent conflicts and foster more peaceful relations within and between communities and societies through inclusiveness to peacebuilding and resilience.
Youth-centric advocacy and engagement
The youth are important stakeholders in the democratic processes of any country. HURIA seeks to enhance the relationship between youth political participation and democratic engagement through innovative and creative ways of developing the political interest of the youth through involving them in edutainment activities and also find means of building up the civic skills of the youth for their meaningful engagement in democratic processes requiring civic skills utilization.
